Advice for the Bride-to-Be

The difference between looking good and looking fabulous on your wedding day could be as simple as wearing proper fitting and appropriate foundations. From princess ball gowns to backless mermaid gowns, the choices for a dress seems endless. Your options for undergarments, however, may be limited. Bra fit specialist, Brenda Tannahill with Bedtime Boutique, has key recommendations for brides to be.

1. Undergarments
It’s important to pick your undergarments first. From a large-busted woman who needs a good structure, to a small-chested woman who wants to fill out a dress, this step is crucial in giving you the flawless look all brides want on their special day. Longline bras seem to be very popular among brides. They support a wide range of sizes (32A–50FF), and also suck in the tummy to give an hourglass shape. A longline bra is made for dresses that are not too low in the back (since most longline bras are only two inches below bra line). They also have boning through the tummy area that may stick out on lightweight sheath dresses.

2. Shapewear
Some brides take a more relaxed route and will choose shapewear. Shapewear is lightweight like hosiery. It will not have the “hold in” power of a longline. Shapewear could have more of smoothing effect and may make you look five to 10 pounds lighter. Shapewear comes in sizes small to 3X.

3. Bras and Cups
Backless bras and sew-in cups are for smaller chested women. Some women will go with this option if the dress they want is backless or has a large keyhole. No matter what dress you choose, you will need a good-fitting undergarment. So, keep this in mind before saying yes to the dress

4. Change in body
If you plan on having any weight changes, think about how that will affect your undergarments. Any weight changes, up or down, can affect the structure of your undergarment and change can also change the size you may need.

5. Lingerie
Don’t forget about the honeymoon! With a wide variety from sweet and flowy baby dolls, to cool and silky chemises, to sexy teddies and garter
belts, there are endless possibilities to surprise your other half. A variety of styles and a range of sizes from X-Small to 6X, there is lingerie to meet any new bride’s special night.

6. Swim wear
If you are going somewhere warm and sunny, you might need a new swimming suit. There are so many choices — one-pieces, tankinis, and bikinis ranging in size from 8-32W and bra-sized suits ranging from 28D to 44FF. With such a large variety of suits, the style you are looking for can be found and give great support.
