Fall Fitness & Winter Fun With the Bloomington Parks, Recreation & Cultural Arts

Turkey Trot
Kicking off the fun is Bloomington Parks, Recreation & Cultural Arts’ 40th Annual Turkey Trot, offering free family fun for all ages on Thanksgiving morning. The Turkey Trot features a kids’ half-mile run, a 3-mile fun run for all ages, and a 1.5-mile walk — all events take place rain, shine, or snow.

Registration begins at the Miller Park Pavilion at 8am on Thursday, Nov. 22, with the first race beginning at 9am. It is free to register and participate for all ages. Coffee, hot chocolate, and frozen turkey prizes donated by the Chateau; and finish-line race clock, water station, and event bibs donated by Fleet Feet Sports.

In the spirit of thankfulness, the race will also have a food collection box with donations going to Home Sweet Home Ministries. To see a list of their most needed items, visit their website at www.hshministries.org.



Ugliest Sweater Run
Continuing the fun into December, Bloomington Parks, Recreation & Cultural Arts partners with Fleet Feet Sports to present the Fifth Annual Ugliest Sweater Run on Saturday, Dec. 1 at 1pm in Bloomington’s Miller Park.

 

“This is always a great afternoon of fun for the participants,” said PR&CA program manager Jill Eichholz adding, “Santa selfies are always a highlight of the fun run”

 

The Ugliest Sweater Run is a non-competitive 1.5 mile or 3 mile run/walk with surprise-themed selfie stations to be completed during the race.

 

The fun run race is non-competitive. However, awards will be given for men and women in the following categories: Ugliest Sweater, Loudest Sweater, Best-Sweatered Couple, and Most Festive.

 

Register online through Fleet Feet Sports at www.fleetfeetbloomington.com/races/ugliest-sweater-run. Registration for the race is $10. To register for the race and for an Ugliest Sweater Run shirt, it is $20. Deadline to order a shirt is November 24. Online registration for the race only closes November 30.

Free Christmas Concert

‘Tis the season to enjoy the Community Concert Band performing holiday music. The PR&CA Christmas Concert will be held Thursday, December 6 starting at 7pm at the Miller Park Pavilion. This free event is perfect for the whole family.

Wild Lights at the Zoo

Discover Miller Park Zoo in a whole new (candle) light as the Zoo hosts Wild Lights. This two-day holiday event will take place Friday, December 7 and Saturday, December 8, both nights from 5 to 8pm. There will be activities, snacks for sale, and crafts for the kids. This will be a great way to tour the Zoo at night and view the many illuminations and holiday decorations.
