Beat The Winter Blahs With the Bloomington Parks, Recreation & Cultural Arts

Just like that, the office snack table has been inundated with tasty holiday cookies and snacks. Fret not dear reader, eat away but keep active with the Bloomington Parks, Recreation and Cultural Arts this season and into the New Year. As winter descends upon Central Illinois, we bring the fun inside, from fitness classes, ice skating, hockey, and more!


Volleyball

Get your team together for a fun volleyball experience! Opportunities are available for recreational, intermediate, and advanced volleyball teams. The winter league team registration deadline is December 7. Teams may register in person at the office, online, or by fax with a team registration form. Skate with Santa open skate / hockey / ice skating lessons

The Pepsi Ice Center plays host to this fun open skate on Saturday, December 8 from 12:40 to 1:55pm, to skate with Santa this Christmas. Free cookie and 8oz hot chocolate with paid admission. Santa will be available for pictures. Have fun with all of your family and friends skating to Christmas classics. Hockey/ice skating season is going on now, go online to BloomingtonParks.org to find out all the details on the Pepsi Ice Center’s hockey leagues and open skates.

Miller Park Zoo

Something new at the Zoo are the Active Senior Tours that happen on the second Wednesday of the month from 8:30 to 9:30am for only $5 per person. Take your morning stroll at the Zoo! Tours visit a different area of the Zoo each month and learn about the animals who live there. You’ll be guided by a knowledgeable staff member who will give you amazing information — and maybe even a peek behind the scenes! No reservations are required. Your tour guide will meet you at the Zoo entrance. “These tours are a great way to discover something new at Miller Park Zoo without the crowds,” said Anthony Nelson, Miller Park Zoo Business Manager, adding, “If the weather turns bad, we have the ability to move inside and showcase different animals and educational topics.”

ZUMBA® Gold Fitness

Show those holiday pounds who’s the boss by working them off at a Zumba® Gold class. We offer several different styles of Zumba® Gold classes. Classes are easy-to-follow choreography that focuses on balance, range of motion, and coordination. Come ready to sweat, and prepare to leave empowered and feeling strong. Class focuses on all elements of fitness: cardiovascular, muscular conditioning, flexibility, and balance!
