The Benefits of a Plant-Based Lifestyle

When discussing healthy eating, there are a lot of dietary options to monitor when it comes to food. One way of eating people may overlook is how a plant-based diet can help steer you in the right direction for better health.

Vegan comes to mind for most, but this is not the only option. Just adding in more fruits and vegetables to your current diet has the potential to make one feel better. This one step can help your body regulate your cravings and help your body regain stamina.

Did you know, a plant based eating lifestyle has the following potential outcomes:
1. Reduce inflammation in the body
2. Aid in weight loss
3. Lower blood sugar
4. Strengthen the heart
5. Give you a natural glow
6. Help control the desire for sugar, and in doing so, lower your risk for cancer

There are a few things you can do to ease you into a plant-based diet:
• Begin to add one to two more fruits and vegetables to your shopping cart. Get used to the items and be creative with your meals.
• If you are one that likes to snack, try and skip the refined foods and go for kale chips, hummus, KIND bars, fruit smoothies with plain Greek yogurt, or have a plant-based protein shake.
• Do a meatless Monday. This will get you thinking of ways to create your new plant-based meals. Start with quinoa and beans, bean burritos, lettuce wraps, or experiment with lentil soup. If you decide to go for foods that are soy-based, make sure to get organic soy products since others seem to be genetically modified.

If you decide to do a strict plant-based diet, get the proper amount of nutrients and minerals from your food. There are good amounts of protein found in vegetables, beans, and legumes. With that said, when eating plant-based over a long period of time, the body can decline in nutrients and minerals. I recommend contacting your doctor and making sure he/she knows you are going to be changing the way you eat to a plant-based diet so that they can monitor B12, Vitamin D, calcium, and iron. It’s important to keep a connection between yourself, your body, and your doctor.
